8 Ways We Contribute To Better Health

Organature is a family owned and operated business which specialises in manufacturing Organic products for the home. We make a range of everyday household items including bed linen, cleaning cloths, fabric, clothing for all the family, toxic free hardwood timber furniture, beds, bunks and trundles, sheets, doonas, blankets and much more. Organic Cellophane Packaging (ideal for food storage) is also available for sale. Little things can make a big improvement to the way you feel on a daily basis.

The difference between our products and the products you may find at other retailers is that our items are made from Organic Cotton, Australian Hardwood and chemical free materials.

1 … Everything we manufacture and use has been thoughtfully chosen with Chemical Sensitivity, Asthma and Allergy Sufferers in mind, right down to the packaging and printer ink. Read FEELING BETTER – getting relief from allergies, depression, chronic fatigue

2 … We have our own sewing room and showroom where we manufacture most of our products and our doors are open to the public. The Organature shop is located in Newhaven Victoria (on Philip Island) and we welcome people who may be interested in our organic range to call us or just drop in to see us.

3 … All Organature bedlinen and other bedding products are made in Australia in our own sewing rooms under strict clean conditions. Our requirements to supply healthy products to the public which are NOT contaminated by outgassing from other products and are more strict than organic certification requirements. Read What Does “Certification” Really Mean?

4 … Our manufacturing area, sewing room and showroom walls are painted with natural organic paint, the suspended ceiling is hardwood frame with organic cotton calico, and the cutting table is Australian hardwood. (We DO NOT use chipboard, particle board or MDF).

5 … We are predominantly a family business and none of us use synthetic fragrances from perfumes, deodorants, aftershave to hand creams, personal care products etc. which is especially important while sewing, manufacturing or handling organic products.

6 … We follow the European Organic certification standard which is more stringent and health promoting. We don’t use the American standard because it allows certain chemicals to be used in fabrics, like OB fabric whiteners, which are not allowed in Europe.

7 … We manage all aspects of the fabric supply and import, the products we manufacture ourselves and those we have made especially for us under strictly controlled contract, without contamination from outside sources. The difference with Organic Cotton Textiles and conventional textiles is that GOTS Certified Organic Textiles are NOT treated with harmful chemicals such as colour fastener, colour setter, wrinkle free, non-iron and lately fragrances, all of which are chemicals, harmful to both the planet and humans. None of our dyes contain hazardous chemicals. No dye setter is used in the process of dyeing our cotton, and the process we use is low VOC (Volatile organic compound), no AZO (Azo compound) and there are NO heavy metals, nerve toxins or formaldehyde used either, which is common in conventional cotton dyeing. Read How Safe Are The Coloured Dyes Used In Organic Fabrics?

8 … We use Cotton which is grown WITHOUT the use of synthetic chemicals. Organature Innerspring and Futon Mattresses, Toppers, Quilts and Pillows are manufactured under agreement in Australia using only “Certified Organic Cotton” fabrics and filling and deliberately made to our even stricter than organic specifications.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about improving your health or you’d like to know more about our extensive product range. We cater for all types of people, from those who desperately need to find relief from chemical sensitivity, those who desire to contribute to a cleaner planet, those who wish to alleviate allergy symptoms or those who just want to feel a much greater sense of general well-being.

WRITTEN BY Eva 23/02/2015
I recently purchased two of these pillows, one for my husband and I. We’ve been using them for a few weeks now and I have to say that I’ve never been so happy with a pillow! There is always something I don’t like – too high, too smelly, too hot etc, but these are perfect. My husband said to me yesterday “those new pillows are TOO good. I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning!” He usually complains about pillows too! We specifically wanted organic too as we are gradually trying to go organic with most household items.

I was feeling “off” and couldn’t quite put my finger on what was wrong. For months I could smell something weird in my bedroom, but no one else could. Then one day I decided to do a spring clean, opened my pillow covers and saw this horrible yellow discolouration. YUK! They went in the bin immediately, I ordered new organic ones online and now I’m gradually changing over the rest of my bedroom too.

These pillows are a life saver, after becoming allergic to my cheap nasty polyester pillows I had to throw them out and had been sleeping on a rolled up cotton towel. After punching in 100% cotton pillows into google I came across Organature and found that they had exactly what I wanted, cotton fill inside and cotton cover outside, chemical and fragrance free and organic to boot, what a bonus. I received my new pillows the very next morning after purchasing online. I bought a standard half fill for myself as I like to lay pretty flat and curl the very edge of the pillow up into the nape of my neck and a standard pillow for my boyfriend. We couldn’t be happier with the pillows they are very comfortable and best of all no smells or nasty chemicals to make me sick. Thank you to everyone at Organature for helping me to sleep easier.

Even Our Furniture Is Better For You

WHY AUSTRALIAN MADE TIMBER FURNITURE IS A HEALTHIER OPTION

All our Hardwood Timber Furniture, beds, bedside tables, chests, couches, trundles and bunks are Made In Australia specially for us with locally sourced “Victorian Mountain Ash” from managed plantations. No Toxic chemicals, No MDF, No Chipboard, No Chemical Paint and No Toxic Glues are used during any part of the manufacturing process. When wooden products are imported into Australia, they MUST be fumigated with chemicals before entering the country to kill off any biological hazards that could be potentially harmful in the spread of pests and disease. Every piece of timber we use is sourced from our local South Gippsland region.

VARIETY OF SAFE TIMBER FINISHES

All Organature furniture comes in several different timber finishes; raw and sanded OR with a natural plant and mineral based oil in your choice of colours. These are a safe and eco friendly alternative to the conventional polyurethane, synthetic & chemical paints mostly used by other furniture manufacturers.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL PRODUCES HEALTHIER RESULTS

We go to great lengths to reduce the impact that chemicals have in our lives. Even the glue we use is a special one imported from the US, as Australian produced adhesives are too toxic. This special glue dries rock hard within 10 minutes. Only a very small amount is needed between the timber joints because nails and decorative bolts are utilised as much as possible, keeping the glue contained so it doesn’t spill to the outside. This combination avoids chemical outgassing and toxic buildup, which is prevalent in most furniture and building materials in use today.

REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

We work with a highly reputable local sawmill to reduce our carbon footprint. Brown Sawmills are members of Australian Forest Standard, SAI Global certified system and PEFC, assuring Australian forests are properly cared for, maintained and managed in the most sustainable ways.

The main advantage for choosing locally sourced hardwood over imported timbers is that local hardwood is NOT “fumigated”, while imported timber must pass quarantine inspections before it’s allowed to enter the country. These imported wooden products are often fumigated prior to arriving to reduce biosecurity risks from exotic pests which can be carried in the egg or larvae stage, their presence might not even be obvious until frass (a sawdust-like substance) and holes appear some time later.

FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHAT YOU BUY

For those who are conscious of caring for the environment, desire to improve their health and wellbeing or who simply wish to lessen their day to day exposure to chemicals, our handcrafted timber furniture and hardwood beds provide you with a safer, cleaner, healthier option that we are sure, you will “feel good” about having in your home, for many years to come.
